Last week, students from throughout Florida and the nation discovered if they would be joining the Gator Nation in 2012. With applications at an all-time high of more than 29,000, UF has developed a way to enroll more incoming freshmen -the UF Innovation Academy.
Innovation Academy students will arrive in Gainesville in spring 2013, and will only take classes during the spring and summer semesters. The Academy option allows UF to admit more students and to leave the Fall semester open for internships and travel-abroad programs.
Though the program began as a way to increase enrollment, UF has developed coursework dedicated to innovation and entrepreneurship for the Innovation Academy students. The academy allowed nearly 1,400 additional students to be admitted with the goal of 500 enrolling in the spring semester 2013 when the program begins.
